Some people grow up wanting to be astronauts or athletes. Shamil Pashaev grew up wanting to make cars shine. As a kid in San Diego, he'd spend hours in the driveway hand-washing his dad's old Chevy — not because anyone asked him to, but because watching water bead off a perfectly clean hood gave him a feeling nothing else did. By 16, he was detailing cars for neighbors on weekends. By 19, he'd saved enough to buy his first pressure washer and a used van. In 1997, Awesome Guys Auto Care was born — not from a business plan, but from a guy who genuinely could not stop making cars look beautiful.

The early years were simple: one van, one person, one obsession. Shamil would wake up at 5 AM, load up his equipment, and drive from Pacific Beach to La Jolla to Coronado — wherever someone needed their car brought back to life. He didn't advertise. Clients found him through word of mouth at Balboa Park car meets, referrals from body shops along Morena Boulevard, and the simple fact that cars he touched looked noticeably different from everything else on the road. One fleet manager at a downtown hotel saw a car Shamil had detailed in the parking lot and booked his entire 12-vehicle fleet on the spot. That's how every contract started — someone saw the work.

Over 28 years and more than 15,000 vehicles, Shamil earned every credential the industry offers — IDA certification, Ceramic Pro Master Installer status, Gtechniq Crystal Serum accreditation — not for the resume, but because each one taught him something new about protecting paint. He's worked on everything from a college student's first Honda Civic to a $3 million Bugatti Chiron at a Rancho Santa Fe estate. And the truth is, he approaches both with the same intensity. "Every car is someone's pride," he says. "Doesn't matter if it's a $20,000 car or a $2 million car — when they see it after we're done, that reaction is the same. That's what I live for."

That obsession is also why he created Shine Club — the subscription detailing program that now has over 200 active members across San Diego. The idea came from watching his regular clients struggle to keep up with maintenance between appointments. Salt air in La Jolla eats paint within weeks. Dust in Escondido coats cars overnight. Bird droppings in Coronado bake on in hours. Shamil realized that detailing shouldn't be something you remember to book — it should just happen, automatically, on a schedule. Shine Club makes sure every member's car stays in showroom condition year-round, because Shamil's real mission isn't just detailing cars — it's making sure every vehicle in San Diego looks as good as it can, all the time.
